The Olympics began over two thousand seven hundred years ago in Olympia in ancient Greece.The ancient Greeks took part in the Olympic games to celebrate the Greek god Zeus and Hera. Men and boys where only allowed to take part. The Olympics take place every four years. The Olympic torch is lit so that people know about the Olympics. The torch goes around the country. The five rings represent the five continents. The Paralympics take part after the Olympics. If a athlete comes second they get a silver medal.
